Jonathan Rees Counselling

A winding forest path leading into the distance, with sunlight peeking through the canopy of trees.

Are you confused, lost or stuck?

Life is often described as a journey. If it was a walk in the countryside, there would be sunshine, hills and valleys, open country and woodland. More often it's raining and you're stuck in the woods. Are you unable to see the wood for the trees, and you're wondering where all the trees came from which are blocking your way?Are you on a path but have lost a sense of direction? Are you in a clearing with several paths to choose from but it's hard to decide which one?Is there no path in front of you?If any of these are true for you, you might want to find out more about counselling.

How could counselling help?

Counselling is like having a professional alongside you in your woodland, who makes it feel safe to explore in a way you've not been able to until now, so that you can discover your own strength and resilience to navigate challenging emotions and experiences. They help you see the wood for the trees, not tell you which ones to prune or cut down, so that you can make informed decisions about your life, rooted in your own values and insights. They walk beside you on the path that feels off, while you explore why that might be, sometimes pointing out things that you've not noticed yet as you decide what to change, so that you gain clarity and perspective, enabling you to uncover and address the root causes of your struggles. They sit with you in the confusion of the clearing or the blocked way forward and patiently encourage you to explore the options ahead, so that you can find your own solutions and build confidence in your decision-making abilities. They help you identify the seeds that were once planted and have now become the trees blocking your way, so that you can address past experiences and beliefs that may be hindering your progress, allowing for healing and moving toward fulfillment .

Yes, I can work online as well as face-to-face (in Bristol, UK).What type of counselling do you offer? Technically, I'm an integrative counsellor, using a person-centred approach with techniques from Somatic Experiencing and NLP.What is Somatic Experiencing? SE is is a naturalistic form of healing that will help you learn how to settle and release physiological activation from your body. Very often this process helps people to reduce stress and return to a sense of regulation and mastery in their lives. SE will support you in learning how to attend to uncomfortable sensations in your body and gently unwind them through your conscious attention. SE is particularly useful in managing trauma and stress because so many of the symptoms are physiological. If you would like to read more about SE, visit www.traumahealing.com or read In an Unspoken Voice by Dr. Peter Levine. What is NLP? Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a therapeutic approach that explores the connection between our thoughts, language, and behaviors. Everybody should have someone like Jonathan

He very cleverly helps you to explore your ambitions and desires without ever leading you in a particluar direction. I was rather expecting to be told 'oh, you should do this or you should do that' and quickly realised that I had never achieved such clarity regarding myself and ambitions as I did with Jonathan. Everybody should have someone like Jonathan.
